WineBid's Finally Hammered Posted: 07/19/2023

Whether you're a master sommelier, an investor, or just a wine lover, if you're anything like us, you love to source great bottles for a great price.  There are a lot of wine podcasts out there, but we noticed how there didn't seem to be any dedicated to discussing great values in wine, not to mention wild auction results. So, we launched one ourselves!

Listen to Finally Hammered - Wine Auction 7/16 - 7/23

This week Paul shares some of his favorite picks in auction and why with us below.

2006 Caduceus Anubis

“This is a bit of a rarity in the secondary market, in that many Tool fans grab up the limited allocation from mailing list or select retail locations. This is an earlier version sourced from California fruit, but now the wine is made from mountain property in Arizona. Throw this into a blind tasting – it’s sure to stump many aficionados, and it’s delicious.”

1999 Philipponnat Clos des GoissesJuste Rosé

“Stunning rosé Champagne from one of my absolute favorite producers. Inaugural vintage for this flagship rosé cuvée.”

2019 Senses Day One Pinot Noir

“Thomas Brown is crafting stunning pinot noir and chardonnay from beautiful sites on the Sonoma Coast for Max, Christopher and Myles – childhood friends from Occidental who founded Senses in 2011. With each vintage they continue to improve and the ‘19s are phenomenal.”

1998 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg

“As serious as it gets for Richebourg – without the pecuniary punishment of higher-profile producers.”

2020 Les Horées Bourgogne Aligoté EnCoulezain

“Apparently popularized by the noted critic, William Kelley, these will be exceedingly rare as they disappear from the lucky few who secure allocations. Don’t miss them!”
