Tsarine

Tsarine Champagne was founded in 1730 by two French brothers, Jacques-Louis and Jean-Baptiste Chanoine, whose marketing plan was to sell their Champagne to Russian aristocrats. Everything French was fashionable in the imperial courts of 18th century Russia, and Champagne was the drink of choice. Therefore the two French entrepreneurs named their wine in homage to rulers of Russia, especially the Russian tsarinas, or empresses. The swirls built into every glass bottle of Tsarine are meant to remind Champagne drinkers of the ringing bells of Russian Orthodox churches. Based in Reims, Tsarine is today owned by Boizel Chanoine Champagne.
