Château Fougas Maldoror is in the Cotes de Bourg appellation on the northern right bank of the Gironde River. In the 17th century the estate belonged to a monastery. In 1976 it was acquired by Jean-Yves Bechet, who comes from a Bordeaux negociant family. The 44-acre estate is planted to 50% Merlot, and 25% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Robert M. Parker Jr. has described Château Fougas Maldoror as a wine that “represents the benchmark for this appellation’s greatest wines. Jean-Yves Bechet, the proprietor, spares no expense and makes no compromise to turn out this sumptuous blend…”
