RATINGS

97James Suckling

...so nicely crafted, with tannins that are fine and integrated, creating such a fine, silky texture...medium-bodied with fantastic length and a long, persistent finish.

96Jeb Dunnuck

...compact and savory with herbaceous layers as well as notes of menthol, toasted cedar, cassis, and fresh leather. Full-bodied and fresh, with beautiful taper and a lift of acidity on the finish, it delivers a rich concentration of flavors with blackberry, violets, and oak spice.

93Wine Spectator

...exhibiting black currant, black cherry, olive and wild rosemary flavors.

91Wine Enthusiast

...offers aromas of mature black-skinned berry, aromatic herb and a hint of bell pepper. The structured palate features mature black currant, espresso and licorice alongside fine-grained tannins.

17.5Jancis Robinson

Deliciously ripe blackcurrant and bramble aromas. Soft and juicy... Very delicious, with an understated Tuscan twist of bitterness on the warm finish.

REGION

Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri

Bolgheri is a tiny village just inland from the western Tuscan coast with a storybook renaissance castle but no train station. To wine enthusiasts, however, Bolgheri DOC is perhaps Italy’s most exciting wine appellation. It is the cultural heart of the Maremma, the coastal stretch of Tuscany where some of the first Super Tuscans were produced commercially in the late 1960s. Various members of the legendary Antinori wine dynasty and other influential producers established estates in Bolgheri starting in the 1970s, creating such Super Tuscans as Guado Al Tasso and Ornellaia. Bolgheri was awarded DOC status in 1983. Red, white and dessert wines are made in this appellations, and many of the most renowned are the Super Tuscans made from blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and other red varietals. The white wines are blends of Vermentino and Trebbiano. The reds are notable for being blends that have a distinctive Tuscan terroir.
